Weather Hinders Title Chase for Lovell
Weather and bad luck hindered the AMSOIL Lovell racing team in Eldora, OH this past weekend. The legendary Eldora Speedway would not play nice with off-road trucks and set the stage for extreme off-road racing.
With the first day of racing rained out and the second night’s race dodging rain storms, the pro-light field took to the course with no qualifying, practice, or track prep. Lovell started in the 4th row and was immediately covered in mud. “The clay stuck on everything,” relayed Brad, “visibility was awful and I had to take my glove off to get at the tearoffs. When I did that I lost a couple positions but stayed calm because I knew it was about survival.” Violent holes were developing in the landing zone of several jumps and Lovell took a direct hit blowing the whole front of the truck off and packing the engine compartment with mud. Brad continues, “I found a better line but then out of nowhere the transmission let go. The output shaft was completely missing! It was a trying weekend for sure and not the result we prepared for.”
The team trails in points but is still firmly focussed on a repeat championship. On a positive note, the series now directs its attention to the steadfast tracks of Bark River and Crandon – where the team ran fast and won the championship in 2012. “We have been blasted with bad luck this year but it is going to take more than this to get us down. We count on being a threat in Bark River!”
